Cool Therapy for Relief of Inflammation

Arctx Investigational Cooling Therapy

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is an acute inflammatory process of the pancreas that presents as severe upper abdominal pain, often accompanied by nausea and vomiting. During episodes of the disease, inflammation of the pancreas occurs, which can lead to pancreatic cell death or necrosis and systemic illness. Normal pancreatic functions, such as the secretion of digestive enzymes into the gut that are required to break down proteins, carbohydrates and fats, are compromised. Pancreatitis can also impair the pancreas’ ability to produce sufficient insulin. This can lead to hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and, in some cases, the development of diabetes.

Arctx Cool Therapy

Arctx Cool Catheter with circulating fluids, cools adjacent to the pancreas. Per animal studies at Mayo Clinic, pancreatic cooling has been shown to impact the multiple steps of the inflammatory cascade, including the lipolysis of intrapancreatic triglyceride, downstream signaling, and decreasing local pancreatic injury.1
